Training Camp Report – Day 10

Montrealalouettes.com

Sherbrooke – Montreal Alouettes players had a full plate on this tenth day of the 2015 Training Camp, as they took part in consecutive indoor training sessions at Roland-Dussault MultiSport Complex in preparation for there first pre-season game to be held Saturday night, in Quebec City.

Tom Higgins’ protégés went at it at a frenzied pace, continuing to refine the offensive and defensive strategies for Saturday’s clash against the Ottawa REDBLACKS. Tuesday marked the last day of back-to-back practices of training camp, which is normally one of the days the players look the most forward to every year.

Taking Over

With Tanner Marsh absent following an injury sustained in Monday’s training session, quarterback Dan LeFevour appeared in his first practice for the Alouettes. The experienced quarterback quickly proved he hasn’t lost his touch, showing why GM Jim Popp had a high interest in bringing him to the organization. With surgical precision, LeFevour had himself two very good training sessions demonstrating a great ease and obvious complicity with his new teammates.

“Its great to finally have the chance to jump on the field with my teammates and to participate in the team’s preparations,” said the 28-year-old quarterback.

“It’s wonderful to see that Dan has fully recovered,” added head coach Tom Higgins. “He can now put this behind him and place all of his efforts on the offensive playbook.”

The offence’s turn to shine

In addition to Dan LeFevour’s return, star receiver Fred Stamps also returned to the practice field, making his presence felt on many occasions. He rejoins a receiving core loaded with a mix of experienced players like S.J Green, Nik Lewis and Samuel Giguère, as well as outstanding rookies Alex Charette, Cody Hoffman, and Mikhaïl Davidson. Chemistry is really starting to settle on offence, as they give plenty for the defence to chew on.

Rapid Fire

Hoffman made the catch of the day, as he extended his arm to haul in a beautifully thrown ball by Crompton… Veteran Dobson Collins also played well as he made the longest catch of the day extending to over 40 yards… Jean-Christophe Beaulieu also had one of his best days of the training camp. The Trois-Rivières, QC native running back really seems to absorb all of the knowledge that Ryan Dinwiddie and Anthony Calvillo are passing on to him.

Transactions

The Alouettes released veteran defensive back Chris Thompson prior to Tuesday’s pratices in order to make room for Dan LeFevour on the roster.
