Training Camp Report – Day 11

Sherbrooke – The Montreal Alouettes players were back on Bishop’s University’s Coulter Field on a beautiful Wednesday morning for a single practice.

Following a high-tempo and intense preparation day, the Alouettes players, coaches and football operations personnel were given the opportunity to chat and mingle with the organization’ numerous sponsors and partners that made the trip from Montreal to Sherbrooke. It was much-appreciated gathering for the players, as it was for the sponsors who got the chance to break bread with their favorite players.

The offense on a roll

The Alouettes offense showed once again some encouraging signs, taking some solid repetitions. The veteran offensive linemen are sharp and reliable, offering all the time in the world for quarterbacks to set the table for outstanding plays. S.J. Green made one of the most beautiful catches of the day, as he hauled in a 30-yard Jonathan Crompton throw despite being in double coverage. The veteran receiver dived vertically, as only he knows how to do, all while catching the ball.

Dan LeFevour also stood out on Wednesday, he who made his debut with his new squad the previous day, throwing a perfect pass to Dobson Collins who made the catch and reached the end zone. Canadian quarterback Brandon Bridge didn’t want to miss the party as he connected with Chandler Jones, who transformed the reception into a touchdown.

A few days away from the team’s first pre-season game on Saturday in Quebec City, the players’ intensity and concentration was palpable.

“This duel represents a unique opportunity for the young players to showcase their abilities and prove to the organization what they are made of,” declared centre Luc Brodeur-Jourdain following practice. “As for the offensive side of the ball, we can’t wait until Saturday. Facing the best defence in the league each day helps us get prepared for that kind of challenge”.

Rapid fire

Linebacker Kyries Hebert and defensive back Jamahl Knowles were responsible for the two nicest plays of the day on the defensive side of the ball, as they both knocked down passes which deprived receivers from long gains… Quarterback Tanner Marsh was on the sideline on Wednesday, as he watched his teammates practice. The news was bittersweet for Marsh who was placed on the six-game injured list, as his ligament didn’t suffer any damage.
