Training Camp Report – Day 12

Montrealalouettes.com

Sherbrooke – While the CFL preseason schedule was launched earlier this week, the Montreal Alouettes’ players were given extra preparation time, as they took to the Bishop’s Univeristy Coulter Field for the twelfth day of training camp on Thursday. This marked the team’s last practice until Saturday’s contest against the Ottawa REDBLACKS in Quebec City.

Behind the scenes

Amongst the Alouettes’ fans that made their way to Bishop’s University to encourage their beloved Alouettes on Thursday, a group of high school football players from école secondaire des Pionniers in Trois-Rivières got the opportunity to meet many Alouettes players and  coaches, including Jean-Christophe Beaulieu, Luc Brodeur-Jourdain, Anthony Calvillo, S.J. Green and Samuel Giguere. The players were generous with their time and exchanged for a while with the young football players.

Special teams : Minor adjustments, big results

A trend that many have seemed to notice since the beginning of this 2015 camp is all the time that has been allocated to small details that make big differences. The special teams have been the subject of great attention since the arrival of coordinator Kavis Reed. The team’s players have come together on numerous occasions to give special teams the much needed atention it deserves in three-down football and everything seems to already run smoothly. Reed has been able to quickly establish his philosophy, which the group has bought in to since day one.

Rapid fire

International defensive end Brian Brikowski was back on the field with his teammates as he had been forced to watch the action from the sidelines over the past few days… Another sign that a game is just around the corner is the fact that the Alouettes practiced in the red zone for quite some time on Thursday… Fred Stamps made a nice grab before shaking off the player assigned to cover him to score a touchdown, an entire sequence which he made look so effortless.

Transactions

Prior to jumping on the field, the Alouettes proceeded to a few transactions as the club added national defensive tackle Asante Mizan (6’01’’, 293 lbs.) to the roster. Last season, he cumulated 24 tackles and one sack in eight games with the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks. The club also placed quarterback Tanner Marsh and defensive end Aaron Lavarias on the six-game injured list.
