Montreal – The bad weather on this Canada Day did not stop the Alouettes in their preparation for their game this Friday July 3rd at 7:30pm against the Calgary Stampeders at Memorial Percival Molson Stadium.
Alouettes’ head coach, Tom Higgins, has not yet announced the starting quarterback for Friday’s game, leaving Brandon Bridge and Rakeem Cato to give their best despite the poor weather.
Brandon Bridge, who came in relief to injured quarterbacks Jonathan Crompton and Dan Lefevour during last Thursday’s loss to the Ottawa RedBlacks, took the first repetitions of the practice. It’s important to note that the two quarterbacks had an equal number of repetitions with the first unit. It would not be surprising to see Bridge and Cato in action this Friday, as Coach Higgins has mentioned that the two rookie quarterbacks will most likely see some playing time against the Stampeders.
Alouettes offensive coordinator, Turk Schonert, has made some changes to his offense to simplify the task of the quarterback. The game plan will be to get as much pressure as possible off the quarterback who will be making his first career start in the CFL.
Receivers SJ Green and Samuel Giguère were the quarterbacks’ favorite targets during today’s practice.
Finally, the Alouettes’ defense didn’t let the rain stop them as they hustled and worked hard throughout practice. Friday, when the defensive unit is on the field, look for linebacker Bear Woods (#48) as he is the player in the spotlight for the Alouettes this week and ranked third in the CFL with 8 tackles.
