Montreal – Montreal Alouettes’ quarterback Rakeem Cato was named the CFL’s Top Performer of the week following an electrifying performance in his first professional game, leading his team to an impressive 29-11 victory over the defending Grey Cup champions Calgary Stampeders.

The former Marshall University pivot experienced a flawless performance, playing like a veteran throughout the entire game. The 23-year-old quarterback recorded a stellar 241 passing yards, hitting six different targets from the Montreal offensive arsenal, including three for touchdowns to former Stampeders Nik Lewis, Quebec native Sam Giguère and newcomer Cody Hoffman. Cato managed to complete 20 of 25 passes, good for a 80% passing percentage efficiency.
After four years as the Thundering Herd pivot, Cato left the University as the all-time leading passer with 131 touchdowns passes and 14 079 passing yards.
