Plenty to watch for on Sunday!

MONTREAL – In a game with great implication for the CFL playoff scenario, the Montreal Alouettes will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a game presented by BMO on Sunday, October 18, at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium starting at 1:00 p.m.

The Alouettes are looking to make the playoffs for a 19th straight season, a sequence that dates back to the team’s return to the CFL in 1996. There will be many things for fans to watch as they cheer on their team.

Sylvie Moreau and Sandra Dumaresq to sing the National Anthem
For this game, both teams will be wearing pink gear, as the CFL recently launched it’s fifth league-wide campaign to raise awareness and funds to tackle women’s cancers. This national campaign unites all nine CFL teams in October for a good cause.

Also, the “Country Girls” musical duo comprised of local actresses Sylvie Moreau and Sandra Dumaresq will warm up the crowd with the signing of the National Anthem with a touch of country. Natalie Moreau, Sylvie’s twin sister has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and both sisters are spokespersons for the Montreal Cancer Institute for ovarian cancer research.

Two CF-18s will fly over the Stadium
For this important dual, the Alouettes will proudly wear their signature jersey, which honours the team’s roots, i.e. the 425 squadron. More than 500 military are expected for this game. The Alouettes are undefeated with a 3-0 record wearing this jersey, with two of those wins coming against the Tiger-Cats.

Fans will also witness the flyby of two CF-18 Hornets from the 3 Wing Bagotville as they will fly over Percival Molson Memorial Stadium twice before kickoff. More than 500 members of the military will be on attendance this coming Sunday.

Alouettes watch list
Alouettes newly acquired quarterback Kevin Glenn will undoubtedly be a player to watch for. The 14-year CFL veteran will be on a mission to tame the Tiger-Cats defence. He has rejoined former teammates Nik Lewis and Stefan Logan. The later still leads the CFL with 2,033 combined yards. The electrifying returner has become a pillar on Kavis Reed’s special teams unit.

Linebacker Winston Venable is the midst of his most productive CFL season, he who leads the team with 82 defensive tackles, which places him third in the CFL. With four games to play, he could challenge Chip Cox’s team record of 115 defensive tackles in a single season. For his part, S.J. Green will try and reach the 1,000 receiving yards mark for the fourth time in his career. He currently leads the team with 935 receiving yards. Green recently surpassed Hall of Famer Peter Dalla Riva on the Alouettes all-time receiving list.

The Alouettes hopes of making the playoffs are still very much alive. While still in a race for a spot via the crossover, the Alouettes could still clinch a playoff spot in the East. For this to happen, the team would need to win all four of it’s remaining games, while Ottawa would need to lose all of it’s games. If the win against Toronto is by nine points or more, the Alouettes could even finish in second place in the East.
