Montreal – The Canadian Football League announced on Thursday the Montreal Alouettes’ nominees for the 2015 Most Outstanding Player awards as selected by the voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches. With brilliant performances throughout the whole season, kick returner Stefan Logan was named the Alouettes’ Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Special Teams’ Player for this 2015 campaign while his teammate Winston Venable deserved the honour on defence. Jeff Perrett was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, while his partner on the offensive line Luc Brodeur-Jourdain received the nod as the team’s best Canadian player. Kicker Boris Bede earned the recognition for Most Outstanding Rookie.

Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Special Teams’ Player: Stefan Logan

The speedy 34-year-old kick returner not only dominates the CFL with 2,493 combined yards, but he is also rewriting the Alouettes record book with 1,110 kickoff return yards and 1,071 punt return yards this season, both team records. He also added two majors on punt returns and his 12.8 yards average per punt return is the best in the CFL. His determination and his feistiness have helped the team gain excellent field position on most drives. The Tampa, FL native added 179 yards on six missed field goal returns, also a CFL-high. His 2,493 combined yards are third best in team history, placing him behind the illustrious seasons of Mike Pringle and Hal Patterson. Logan was also used on offence, where he cumulated 73 rushing yards and 60 receiving yards.

Most Outstanding Defensive Player: Winston Venable

In his first complete season as a starter, Winston Venable has terrorized offensive units across the CFL, as he amassed an impressive total of 104 defensive tackles, which puts him first on the Alouettes roster and third in the CFL. The 28-year-old also collected five quarterback sacks while forcing a fumble and knocking down three passes. His input helped the Alouettes defence surrender only 21.9 points per game all while sacking opposing quarterbacks 48 times during the course of the season, good for second place in the CFL. He had his best outing against the Toronto Argonauts on October 12, when amassed 11 defensive tackles including a sack.

Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman: Jeff Perrett

A true pillar on the Alouettes offensive line, Perrett helped his fellow linemen successfully protect no less than seven quarterbacks over the course of the season, as they only surrendered 32 quarterbacks sacks thus far this season, only one more than the Calgary Stampeders. The nine-season veteran also made blocks, which allowed the team to gain 1,858 rushing yards, good for third place in the CFL. The openings he created allowed running back Tyrell Sutton to climb into third place in the CFL with 920 rushing yards in only 14 games.

Most Outstanding Canadian: Luc Brodeur-Jourdain

Playing under centre and snapping to seven different quarterbacks throughout the season, Brodeur-Jourdain helped a solid offensive line protect all of them more than adequately as the team only surrendered 32 sacks in 17 games. The 32-year-old also helped the team gain 1,858 rushing yards, good for third place in the CFL. During the team’s last game, the seven-season veteran tore his ACL and MCL. With the game and the season on the line, he demonstrated his commitment to his team and his teammates as he returned to the field to complete the game.

Most Outstanding Rookie: Boris Bede

The former Laval University standout demonstrated all his power and precision throughout his first professional season, as he made all of the team’s kicks. He made 35 of his 39 field goal attempts (89,7%), good for second place in the League and which is the best percentage in a season in Alouettes history. He currently leads the CFL with an average of 65.2 yards on kickoffs. The 25-year-old also maintained an average of 44.4 yards on punts, pinning opposing teams inside their 20-yard line 27 times and inside their 10-yard line on nine occasions, helping the team maintain good field position throughout the season.
