SHERBROOKE – With their first preseason game rapidly approaching, Alouettes players took to Coulter Field to participate in back-to-back practices for the second consecutive day. Despite the rainy conditions, both practices produced some great plays and high intensity throughout.
High Expectations
Alouettes kicker Boris Bede is taking part in his second professional training camp, however it’s his first as a starter. After being named the Alouettes’ rookie of the year and making the East Division All-Star team, all eyes are on Boris to follow up an exceptional start to his career and surpass expectations in his sophomore season.
According to Special Teams coach Kavis Reed, Alouettes fans can expect big things from the Frenchman in 2016: “It’s his second year in the league, so I think that he has a very good understanding of all the angles of the field, the pace of the game and what we expect of him. I expect that he’ll do exceptional things this year.”
Rapid Fire
Stefan Logan had the best run of the day, carrying the ball off tackle for 35 yards. The running back celebrated his 35th birthday today, and showed no signs of slowing down… Corbin Louks continued his impressive camp, as he hauled in a beautiful pass from the recently acquired Vernon Adams. Jr… Not to be outdone, B.J. Cunningham caught a 65-yard bomb on a perfectly placed ball by Rakeem Cato… Standing out on defense Thursday was Billy Parker, as the veteran corner intercepted two passes in three plays, showing great anticipation and cover skills.
Quick Hits
On June 4 and 5, CIS and amateur coaches are invited to watch the team practice, and meet with coaches and players as the session concludes. This presents a great opportunity for any coaches who want to learn from the best and soak in the CFL coaching experience.
International fullback/tight end, LaQuan Mcgowan, which the Alouettes were interested in adding to the roster, has been unable to clear a medical and will not be joining the team at this time. He is scheduled to return to his native Texas shortly, but is expected back with the team at some point this season.
Football players from the école secondaire du Triolet in Sherbooke attended practice today, showing their support despite the rainy conditions. After their consecutive practices concluded, Alouettes players spent some time in front of the TSN and RDS cameras to complete their headshots for the upcoming season. The players had a full plate on Thursday, as they also received their mandatory presentation from the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sports (CCES).
