MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes announced on Friday that international defensive end Gabriel Knapton has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the club, which will allow Alouettes fans to keep watching one of the most spectacular players at the position in the CFL for years to come.
Knapton (6’03’’, 263 lbs.) will be entering his fourth year in the CFL, which have all been with the Alouettes. In 51 regular season games, the 27-year-old athlete has accumulated a total of 137 defensive tackles, including 29 quarterback sacks as well as forcing two fumbles.
“The resigning of Gabriel is very important to our team, in particular to our defensive squad”, said Alouettes General Manager Kavis Reed. “His character and leadership are two elements which we hope will help lead our team to success in 2017.”
Last year, Knapton was among the bests in the CFL, ranking seventh in sacks with nine, right behind his teammate John Bowman. He gave the opponents serious troubles last year, recording an impressive total of 49 defensive tackles.
