A home opener for the ages!

Here at Alouettes headquarters, we don’t take the much-anticipated return of football season lightly! To kickoff our 2017 season in style, we’re providing entertainment by the truckload! So if you’re wondering where to start your long weekend, there’s no need to look any further. Percival Molson Memorial Stadium will be the place to be to begin your St-Jean-Baptiste celebrations. On Thursday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. it will be much, much more than just an ordinary home opener. It’s the launch of a whole new era for the Alouettes and we want to celebrate with you!

1. A historic match-up

Darian Durant wore Saskatchewan green for 10 seasons, winning two Grey Cups for the Roughies… but come Thursday, it will be Montreal’s red, white and blue that he’ll be proudly wearing. And the opening game couldn’t have come at a better time. The veteran QB will be taking on his former teammates on his new home field. We’re expecting a high-intensity game that will surely rekindle old grudges. And let’s not forget that it’s possible the starting quarterback for Saskatchewan could well be former Alouette Kevin Glenn. Former Alouette, new Alouette, who is going to come out on top? We sure know who we’re betting on.

 2. The winds of change

Training camp and the pre-season are over. Gameday faces are now on. In the spotlight Thursday, June 22: the 2017 edition of YOUR Alouettes. The players you’ll see hit the field were all rigorously selected by our new spotlight partnership: the Chapdelaine-Reed duo. After their convincing victory against the defending Grey Cup champion Ottawa RedBlacks in the pre-season, the team is raring to go and ready to show you what they are made of.

3. An impressive half-time line-up

Don’t wander too far after the end of the 2nd quarter because we have something really special in store for you. We’ll start things off by celebrating excellence in Quebec university football by honouring the 2016 Vanier Cup champions, the Rouge et Or of Université Laval. Then it’s the acrobatics of the famous Cirque Éloize. You’re going to want to stay glued to your seat! Like we said, when it comes to celebrating the return of football, we go all out!

4. Physical prowess

Our players might not be acrobats (then again, take a look at the photo under), but they’re rock-solid (Hi, Luc!), lightning fast (we challenge you to a sprint against Chip Cox), veritable bulldozers (watch Nik Lewis shred the defense) and once in a while can even be elegant (did you see Tiquan Underwood’s 40 yard pass reception last week?!). Hockey’s over. Ya, so? If you’re longing for sports, we’ve got what you need.

5. An epic tailgate

Tradition dictates that we should watch football on a full stomach. That’s why the Alouettes – – starting at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday – – are providing ample space to fans where they can fill their stomachs before heading into the stadium to fill the stands. And exclusively this Thursday there’ll be a performance from the Yves Lambert Trio and Socalled presented by POP Montreal to get the party started! That’s what we like to call a successful launch to a holiday long weekend! Reserve your private tailgate along with a BBQ Québec course HERE or enjoy one of the food trucks that will be on-site.
