The Montreal Alouettes annonced on Friday that public announcer Jacques Moreau is stepping down as the official voice of the Alouettes. He has been with the team since 1972 and worked for the club for 34 seasons.
“The Alouettes will always be my team and I will continue to follow their activities,” said Jacques Moreau. “I’m turning the page on a beautiful portion of my career. I took a lot of pride in being involved with the Alouettes for so many years.”
He was also the play-by-play announcer for Alouettes‘ games on the radio at CJMS, CKVL, CKLM and CKAC. Jacques Moreau originates from Rouyn-Noranda, in Abitibi, where his passion for football started. His son Jacques Jr. played for the Alouettes as a guard during the 1996 campaign.
In his 38-year career, including 34 as public announcer, Jacques Moreau has seen nearly 700 games and has witnessed five Alouettes Grey Cup championships.
“Jacques has worked with us for more than 30 years and always had a contagious passion for football; he considered the Alouettes his second family,” said Alouettes President and CEO Patrick Boivin. “On behalf of the organization, I thank him for his dedication to our team and to our fans during all these seasons. He made us live, in his own way, many of the Alouettes’ historic moments and his voice will undoubtedly remain in the hearts of our fans.”
His longtime partners André Meunier and Robert Bisson are also leaving the nest. The Alouettes will pay tribute to Jacques Moreau at the Percival Molson Memorial Stadium during the 2018 home opener, on June 22, against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Tickets for the home opener on June 22 are now available starting at just $29 or $15 for students HERE or at 514-787-2525. Several new options are available to football fans, including the All-You-Can-Eat Section (at $76 per game) and the three-game (or six-game) Discovery Pack that includes one game on the BBQ Quebec Terrace with a foodie meal, one game in the All-You-Can-Eat Section and one game in the General Admission Section for only $189 taxes incl.com
