Montreal, October 26, 2021 – The Montreal Alouettes have swept the CFL Player of the week awards for week twelve, as running back William Stanback, receiver Eugene Lewis and defensive back Monshadrik Hunter received the honours following the team’s brilliant 37-16 win over the Toronto Argonauts, last Friday, in Montreal.
This marks the second time this season that Stanback receives the nod. The 27-year-old Hempstead, N.Y. native ran 24 times for 203 yards, tying a career high, while adding a touchdown, last Friday. He made spectacular runs of 65 and 41 yards. For the former Virginia Union University Panther, it marked his fifth game of more than 100 rushing yards this season, a personal best.
Stanback collected a ninth 100-yards plus game in his CFL career. In eight games this season, Stanback sits atop the CFL with 880 rushing yards, which is 199 more yards than the next competitor, all while playing three less games. He has averaged an impressive 110 rushing yards per game.
For his part, Lewis caught all seven passes thrown in his direction for gains of 156 yards, on top of scoring two majors, maintaining a 22.3 yards per catch average. Like his teammate Stanback, Lewis leads the CFL yards column for players at his position, as he has amassed 815 receiving yards on 83 receptions, while scoring six touchdowns.
Hunter was one of the culprits for one of the games turning point, as he made his first interception of the game at the beginning of the second quarter, which was immediately followed by Lewis’ first touchdown of the night. The 26-year-old completed the games with two interceptions, two knockdowns and one defensive tackle.
The Alouettes will be playing their next game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, on Saturday, October 30, at 7 p.m.
