On Thursday, the Montreal Alouettes announced that they have completed their first round of interviews for their head coaching vacancy.
The following people were interviewed by general manager Danny Maciocia and president Mario Cecchini over the last few days (listed in Alphabetical order):
“We feel great about the candidates that have gone through the first round of interviews,” Maciocia said. “We had the opportunity to listen to each coach’s plan and how they would approach the job.”
Maciocia spoke to Laval head coach Glen Constantin about interviewing for the head coaching vacancy, but Constantin has decided to remain with the Rouge et Or.
“We respect Glen’s decision to stay at Laval,” The Als GM said. “We have a great relationship, and I consider Glen amongst the top coaches in the country. We’ll continue to work together to advance football in the province of Quebec.”
The team also asked for and received permission to speak to Bob Dyce, but he was hired as head coach of the Ottawa Redblacks last week.
“We would have loved to have spoken to Bob, but we’re happy that he got an opportunity to become a head coach in the CFL,” added Maciocia. “He’s put in a lot of work throughout his career, and we’re happy that it has led to him becoming a head coach.”
The second and final round of interviews will begin as soon as possible. The plan is still for the Alouettes to have a head coach in place before Christmas.
“We think it’s important that we have a head coach in place before the new year,” Maciocia said. “We want to have a clear plan heading into 2023, and we want to make sure that our players know who will be guiding our team.”
