Alouettes finish regular season with loss in Winnipeg

The Montreal Alouettes finished the regular season with a 19-10 loss on the road to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It wasn’t pretty on either side on Saturday with both teams resting key players ahead of the playoffs.
The Alouettes finish the regular season with a 10-8-0 record. They’ve won at least 10 games in each of their three seasons under head coach Jason Maas.

Tough night for offence:
30 minutes before the game, the Alouettes announced that starting quarterback Davis Alexander and 1000-yard receiver Tyler Snead would not play.
There’s no hiding that the offence struggled to move the ball. They managed to get into the red zone just once and they failed to find the end zone.
“It’s hard to win football games kicking field goals. Obviously, we want to get drives going,” receiver Austin Mack said. “Two and outs kill us. Not being on the field there as much as we wanted to takes away opportunities.”

A record night:
Jose Maltos-Diaz kicked his 56th field goal of the season during the first half of Saturday’s game, which is a new franchise record. Damon Duval held had set the previous record back in 2009.
This is Maltos-Diaz’s first full season as starting kicker for the Alouettes and he’s been remarkably consistent. Earlier this year, he set the franchise record for the longest field goal in Alouettes history at 58 yards.
Maltos added his 57th and 58th field goals of the season in the third and fourth quarters to add to his record total.
“I feel happy,” he said after the game. “I’m just trying to do my best for the team and the organization. I’m grateful to God, my family, the organization and everyone. I need to keep working harder. I need to be ready and healthy for next Saturday.
“Honestly, I’m really happy because this is my first time kicking for a full regular season. I was so emotional yesterday because I was thinking about my process – All the years it took me to get to today and this record.”

Another strong outing by Dequoy:
It seems like Marc-Antoine Dequoy always has big games in Winnipeg.
The Als safety intercepted a Terry Wilson pass in the end zone with Winnipeg in the red zone to keep the deficit to just three points.
In his last three games at Princess Auto Stadium, Dequoy has intercepted four passes. He also recorded a quarterback sack in the first half and easily could’ve had another interception of Wilson, but he saw the ball go through his hands.

What’s next?
Another regular season is in the books. The Alouettes will now turn their focus to the playoffs, as they’ll host the East Semi-Final in Montreal next Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 pm ET. You can purchase your tickets HERE
